- W3207321458 abstract "The aim of this research is to increase prosocial behaviour using videogame rewards. Prosocial behaviours are actions that have a positive impact on others. Previous research has established that players who help non-player characters in videogames perceive themselves as having performed a prosocial act. An increase of prosocial self-concept from the videogame can transfer to real-life, encouraging follow-up prosocial behaviour. Videogame rewards are an established means of extrinsically motivating player engagement but may reduce long term engagement for activities such as prosocial behaviours. Administering informational rewards, those that provide effectance relevant feedback, are suggested to overcome this issue but has not been investigated in a videogame context. Using a custom built videogame across 3 online experimental studies, this thesis aims to fill this gap by manipulating reward types for in-game prosocial behaviour and measuring the follow-up prosocial behaviour engagement using a real-life charitable donation." @default.
