• W3207435462 abstract "Objective — to determine serum vaspin levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM-2) of isolated type and in combination with chronic pancreatitis (CP), to evaluate the relationship between the vaspin levels and the thickness of the intima-media complex of the common carotid artery (IMCCCA), presence and structure of atherosclerotic plaque (ASP), parameters of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, markers of inflammation.Materials and methods. The data on serum vaspin levels were obtained from 91 patients (54 men and 37 women) with either isolated DM-2 or DM-2 combined with CP. Evaluations included parameters of lipid metabolism, short and long-term carbohydrate metabolism, indicators of inflammation and pancreatic functional state. The IMC CCA thickness was measured using ultrasound in the B mode. The control group included 20 practically healthy age-matched volunteers (10 men and 10 women). Statistical data processing was performed using nonparametric statistics. The Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney criteria were used, as well as the Spearman nonparametric correlation coefficients (r). The calculations were performed using the software Statistica Basic Academic 13 for Windows.Results and discussion. The serum vaspin levels in patients with isolated DM-2 were significantly (p < 0.05) higher than in the group with combined pathology and controls. Vaspin levels in the ASP subgroup were significantly lower (p < 0.05) than in the subgroup without ASP. The significant correlation has been established between the vaspin levels and indices of carbohydrate metabolism and IMC CCA thickness, which depended on the presence of comorbid pathology.Conclusions. The relationship has been established between the vaspin levels and markers of insulin resistance. The serum vaspin levels directly correlated with the IMC CCA thickness and presence of atherosclerotic plaques, thus demonstrating the vaspin role in atherogenesis." @default.
