- W3207579295 abstract "Purpose of the study:The purpose of the article is to identify and analyse forms of social stigmain the particular pandemic context. People who have been targeted by coronavirus, as well as their relatives, areexposed to stigma. The aggressive and inadequate behaviour of others also affects the medical professionals onthe front lines in the fight against the pandemic. The identification of factors influencing social stigmatization inthese conditions will reduce psychological tensions in society.Methodology:Main methods of research were the analysis of theoretical sources, news and other TV showsduring 4 weeks of self-isolation regime, the analysis of publications on social networks; Online survey (594respondents), informal interviews with sick COVID-19 (4 persons), their relatives and friends in quarantine (8persons). Statistics from the World Health Organization also provided an empirical basis for the study.Main Findings:Stigma finds expression in its own way at different times and in different communities. It hashistorical, social and cultural specific. In the context of the pandemic, stigma takes on a special scale andspecific forms: it has become subject not only to people different from others on the grounds of social role,appearance, lifestyle, but even to those who simply show slight signs of cold. Stigma is accompanied byaggression, fear, anxiety, often generated by biases, stereotypes and rumors.Applications of this study:The results obtained can be used in the implementation of social policy by state andlocal authorities and in the activities of mass communication media. The main results of the study can be usefulfor educational process in such disciplines as sociology, social psychology, social medicine, as well as forfurther study of problems of social stigma.Novelty/Originality of this study:The novelty and significance of the study is that Russian sociology pays notenough attention to the problems of stigma. Furthermore, the particular social situation associated with thepandemic is a very specific social background and a field for stigma. The theoretical findings were derived froman original sociological study conducted by the authors at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic." @default.
