- W3208490012 abstract "Detailed studies into the kinetics of reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerizations mediated by xanthates, trithiocarbonates, and dithiobenzoates are carried out using two electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR)-based techniques. The RAFT equilibrium constant has been measured and has also been estimated via an advanced quantum-chemical strategy. Via the single pulse–pulsed laser polymerization–EPR (SP-PLP-EPR) technique, concentrations of propagating and of the intermediate RAFT radicals are monitored with microsecond time resolution after applying an intense laser pulse. The method provides individual RAFT addition and RAFT fragmentation rate coefficients. Via SP-PLP-EPR, also the controversial mechanistic issue associated with dithiobenzoate-mediated butyl acrylate polymerization may be solved in favour of the intermediate radical termination (IRT) model expanded by the so-called missing reaction step." @default.
