- W3210299708 abstract "ABSTRACTThisstudy examines the gender differences among palm oil processors in Ejigbo LocalGovernment Area of Osun State, Nigeria. Multistage & Stratified samplingtechniques were used to select a total number of 110 Palm oil processors fromfive (5) villages (30 respondents from Iwata, Oke Oyo and Apetu Mekun villagesand 20 respondents from Masifa village). Data were analyzed using descriptivestatistics, multiple regression analysis and gross margin analysis. Resultsshowed that the mean age of the processors was 47 years, majority (82.73%) ofthe palm oil processors were females, 52.63% males and 60.44% females havingprimary education qualification with 78.9% married males and 48.3% marriedfemales. Majority (78.95%) of males and (86.81%) females having a householdsize of 6-10 persons. 57.8% of males have access to credit while majority(78.1%) of females processors do not have access to credit. Results from thegross margin analysis were reflected by the benefit cost Ratio (BCR) of the males as 1.93 andfemales as 2.12, that is,for every 1 unit invested by males processors, there will be a return of 0.93and a return of 1.12 for females processors. Results from multiple regressionanalysis showed that years of farming experience, cost of transport and cost offresh fruit purchase were statistically significant at 1% with all having apositive coefficients. Age of the processors were statistically significant at5% with a negative coefficient. The major constraints affecting the processingof palm oil were labour, price fluctuation, time inefficient methods, seasonaleffect and inadequate modern processing equipment. In conclusion, Palm oilprocessing is a profitable agri-business for both males and females; whichcould serve as a source of income to all individuals and corporations/governmental bodies. Hence, the study recommended the involvement of youths(males and females inclusive) in palm oil processing and implementation offavorable agricultural policies by the government." @default.
