Es zeigt sich, dass vor allem in Europa vielfaltige Korruptionsformen auftreten und die einzelnen Staaten durch erhebliche Unterschiede in den Korruptionsgraden gekennzeichnet sind. Umso verwunderlicher ist es, dass bislang kaum Wissen uber die regionalen Ursachen von Korruption vorhanden ist.In der folgenden Arbeit wird Korruption als ein Phanomen betrachtet, dass sowohl auf der Landerebene mit Aggregatdaten gemessen wird, als auch mit Befragungsdaten aus dem World Values Survey auf der Individualebene. Die statistische Untersuchung bezieht sich auf 37 europaische Lander auf der Makroebene und 20 Lander auf der Mikroebene (1995-2010). Zu Vergleichszwecken und um die spezifisch europaischen Einflussfaktoren von Korruption zu eruieren, werden alle Berechnungen mit einem zusatzlichen „nicht-europaischen“ Sample durchgefuhrt. Die Ergebnisse der Panel und Mehrebenenmodelle zeigen, dass die Inflationsrate, internationale Integration, der Grad und die Dauer von Demokratie, die Anti-Korruptionspolitik, der Anteil an Frauen in Parlamenten, die Religion eines Landes und post-kommunistische Legacies das Korruptionsniveau beeinflussen. Auf der Individualebene hat der Beschaftigungsgrad, finanzielle Zufriedenheit, emanzipative Werte, interpersonelles Vertrauen und die Rechtfertigung von Bestechung von Individuen signifikanten Einfluss. Der Vergleich mit den Ergebnissen des nicht-europaischen Samples macht deutlich, dass es klare Unterschiede in den regionalen Erklarungsfaktoren von Korruption gibt." @default.
