- W3211191535 abstract "Viruses are identified and recognized to emerge and evolve over the period of time. They have co-evolved with human evolution, due to which the diseases re-emerge after a certain span of time. Countries with varied geo-climatic range, face a regular threat of emerging and reemerging viral diseases, thereby remaining the primary cause of human and animal morbidity and mortality. Based on the literature review, there are approximately 250 different known virus species which have been reported to infect humans. The emergence and reemergence of viral diseases can be directly associated with the complex host-virus interaction and co-evolution. As a result, for the past two decades, this has become a continuous challenge, impacting the socio-economic development of the country. Many factors contribute to the appearance of such diseases-viral, human and ecological factors. Host antibodies act as an important barrier in providing protection against viral infections. Its response to any virus entry consists of the innate and adaptive immune response, which are directly dependent on the host, dosage, infection route, virulence properties of the virus etc. The pathogenesis of each virus strain is quite different thereby providing a comparable immune response. Antiviral drugs and monoclonal antibodies are used to treat several viral infections. The current chapter deals with the antibody responses of some of the emerging viruses (viz. Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) virus, Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) virus, Nipah virus, Ebola virus, West Nile virus, Chikungunya virus and the current prevailing Coronavirus) and reemerging viruses (viz. Monkeypox virus, Dengue virus, Influenza virus, Measles viruses and the recently discovered Chapare virus). The factors responsible for the development of these diseases are discussed beneath. It is foreseeable that novel viruses will continue to emerge and evolve in future from other mammals and birds. This calls for an effective global surveillance system for novel emerging and mutating viruses. © 2021 Nova Science Publishers, Inc." @default.
