- W3211194701 abstract "This work is an attempt at presenting, on the basis of a content of a few preserved sources, Serbian church-political conceptions connected with the idea of pentarchy. Ideas about the Pec Patriarchate as the sixth church seat and about St. Sava as the first Serbian patriarch show that the Serbs opposed to Constantinopolitan supremacy (emphasized gradually in Byzantium after the Great Schism in 1054) and tried to be loyal to this original, Early Byzantine thesis about church equality or unity with which they wanted to connect their church (St. Sava’s) tradition and their own church-political thought. These ideas were vital through ages among the Serbian church circles and they were used sometimes in interecclesial relations to determine a place of the Serbian church in the ecumenical order (in relation to the five patriarchal sees) and to prove universal “antiquity” of the Serbian patriarchal chair and its dignity." @default.
