- W3213172591 abstract "Fruit is a type of food that easily contaminated by foreign substances, bacteria, flies and fungi in its surroundings. Therefore, it needs not only a material that can coat these fruits but also edible. Edible coating can be combined between chitosan as natural polymer and glycerol as plasticizer. Glycerol is added to the solution to increase polymer flexibility. Edible coating solution is formed by adding chitosan, glycerol and acetic acid simultaneously with vary weight ratios (w/w). After homogenous solution formed, the solution is printed and left for 24 hours. Printed film is irradiated using Co- 60 gamma irradiation source and expected to reduce or eliminate the external contaminant. Gamma irradiation is used because it is safely applied to a vary of food products. Mechanical properties of printed film were analyzed including elongation, tensile strength and strain breaking. Moreover, film is also characterized using water vapor transmission test (WVTR) to obtain diffusivity and ability to absorb water vapor from the air. After going through several steps of characterization, it is known that gamma irradiation may provide preferable mechanical properties than before irradiation." @default.
