- W3213721862 abstract "FaL-G is a product created by blending fly ash, lime and gypsum which because of its down-to-earth manufacturing technology fits very well into the socio-economic framework of India. At present, India is still heavily dependent on clay-brick for building envelope material, despite clay-brick`s dependence on the continuous excavation of fertile top soil, high cost and carbon-dioxide-emitting fossil fuel used in its manufacture. The FaL-G process takes advantage of the tropical ambience of India, by dispensing with heavy duty presses and autoclaving used in the manufacture of clay-bricks. Assuming that product acceptance could be developed and these obstacles could be removed, this paper discusses the techno-economic logistics of FaL-G brick manufacturing, also paying attention to its role in sustainable development and in combatting global warming. The potential market for clay-bricks in India is estimated at 180 billion bricks a year. At 1800 K cal of energy per brick, clay brick production results in the emission of 146 million tons of CO{sub 2}. Thus even at 50 per cent penetration, FaL-G could act as a carbon sink for 73 million tons of CO{sub 2}, not to mention the added economic benefit to India of earning $ 730 million by trading its unused emission quota at prevailing emission trading prices. FaL-G technology could, of course be used by many other countries, with corresponding ecological benefits. 8 refs., 4 tabs." @default.
