- W3214767449 abstract "The repeated readvance of ice sheets across the Eurasian Arctic over the last 2.7 Ma has left a largely limited geomorphological archive for all but the largest of the pre-Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) ice sheets. Ice-marginal and glacitectonic landforms related to the most extensive ice sheets of the Late Saalian and Early Weichselian remain preserved across Arctic Russia and Eastern Siberia, evidencing a westward shift for the focus of the ice-sheet glaciation through the Last Glacial Cycle. The trough mouth fan sediment depocentres that lie adjacent to the western and northern margins of the eroded Barents–Kara shelf provide an otherwise complete archive of glacial activity through the Late Quaternary. Limited pre-LGM sediments remain preserved on the Svalbard archipelago, recording a repeated cycling of glacial advance and ice-free conditions since 140 cal ka BP. The development of high-resolution 3D seismic datasets has revealed a palimpsest of glacial landforms buried with the Quaternary sediments of the Barents Sea shelf that predate the LGM, including streamlined landforms related to ice streaming, and abundant tunnel valleys indicative of well-developed subglacial hydrological systems." @default.
