- W3214984078 abstract "Thrombocytopenia was correlated with clinically worse outcomes in dengue viral infection (DVI) patients. Histamine-2 Receptor Antagonist (H2RA) and Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI), which administrated due to misinterpretation of abdominal pain presentation, had been reported to induce the adverse effect of thrombocytopenia event. This study aimed to clarify the correlation of those drugs in dengue to give good medical practice for the effectiveness of those in empirically dengue patient management. An analytical retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted from medical records of patient admitted by final diagnosis of DVI from January 1 to December 31, 2015, to 7 major hospitals in Bandung. We grouped the patients into administered with and without H2RA and PPI, then conduct Pearson point biserial analysis to clarify the correlation of each drug and platelet count in dengue patients. A total of 4005 patients admitted by final diagnosis DVI about 11.0% and 25.1% of them received H2RA and PPI respectively. All of patients had prescribed, mostly showed low platelet count <50.000/mm 3 , 55% for H2RA, and 50.8% for PPI. Our study indicated a very weak positive correlation between H2RA (p <0.001; r 0.103) and PPI (p <0.001; r 0.138) with the platelet count in DVI patient. It is concluded that each H2RA and PPI found to be correlated to the low platelet count in DVI patients. Thus, in DVI patients, H2RA and PPI should be used with caution due to low thrombocytopenia outcome." @default.
