• W3215583967 abstract "<b>Introduction:</b> Prior history of pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is an established risk factor for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, the impact of previous TB on COPD exacerbations and mortality rates is still a topic under analysis. <b>Aim:</b> Evaluate the impact of TB history on the outcomes mortality and severe exacerbations in COPD. <b>Methods:</b> Retrospective study of COPD patients followed-up at Pulmonology consultation between 2016-2020. <b>Results:</b> A total of 322 patients (70.5% male, mean age 69.5 years) were analyzed, of whom 63 (19.6%) had previous TB. TB history was more common in those with HIV infection (7.9% vs 3.1% in non-TB, p=0.080) and in urban areas (76.2% vs 64.9% in non-TB, p=0.086). No statistically significant differences were found for age, CAT score, smoking habits or eosinophil count. TB patients were more often not vaccinated both for influenza and pneumococcus (27.1% vs 13.2% in non-TB, p=0.019). Patients with previous TB presented a lower residual volume (mean 2.99±1.13L vs 3.55±1.48L for non-TB, p=0.009). TB history was also significantly associated with GOLD groups C or D (47.6% vs 30.9% in non-TB, p=0.012), reflecting a trend towards an exacerbator phenotype in these patients. TB history was associated with greater exacerbation rate (47.6% vs 35.5% in non-TB, p=0.076) during the last year of follow-up and increased 4-year mortality (17.5% vs 9.7% in non-TB, p=0.078) although both non statistically significant. <b>Conclusions:</b> COPD patients who suffered from TB in the past were more likely to belong to an exacerbator phenotype (GOLD Group C or D) and experienced a propensity for higher mortality." @default.
