- W3215694848 abstract "<b>Background:</b> It has been established that inhalation of air with high humidity may induce bronchoconstriction and symptoms deterioration in significant part of asthma patients. Previously we found that SNPs of <i>AQP5</i> gene may influence osmotic airway hyperresponiveness. <b>Objectives:</b> The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of <i>AQP5</i> polymorphisms on seasonal dynamics of lung function and control in asthma patients depending on air humidity level. <b>Methods:</b> The study included 63 patients with mild-to-moderate asthma (mean age 40.9±1.28 years). Lung function was measured by spirometry. Asthma control was evaluated by ACT questionnaire. <i>AQP5</i> rs3759129, rs296756, rs1964676 and rs3736309 SNPs were genotyped by LATE-PCR. All the patients were examined during two consecutive visits in contrasting seasons with relative air humidity less or more than 70%. <b>Results:</b><i>AQP5</i> rs1964676 SNP significantly influenced the dynamics of lung function parameters and asthma control. GG genotype carriers had the most significant decline in FEV1 (from 104.8±5.55% to 90.3±6.24%, p=0.03) and FEV1/FVC (from 99.3±1.79% to 89.0±2.59%, p=0.006) with the onset of the humid season. Humid season was also accompanied by decrease in ACT score in AG (from 21.0 (17.0-23.0 to 16.0 (12.5-21.5), p=0.01) and GG carriers (from 18.0 (14.0-20.0) to 12.0 (8.0-16.0), p=0.02). At the same time, asthma patients with the AA genotype did not demonstrate significant seasonal dynamics neither in lung function nor in asthma control. <b>Conclusions:</b> The obtained results suggest possible effect of <i>AQP5</i> rs1964676 on seasonal dynamics of clinical and functional parameters of asthma depending on air humidity level." @default.
