• W3217552702 abstract "As we head into 2022, there are many changes afoot within the Sports Medicine Australia community, and that includes JSAMS and its new Gold Open Access sister journal, JSAMS Plus. Over the past six years, Professor Gordon Waddington has presided over JSAMS as Editor-In-Chief. Over his time, we have seen JSAMS grow is size, stature, and of course, Impact Factor. From 2015 to 2020, the number of submissions and published articles have risen 47% and 51% respectively. Our Impact Factor has increased from 3.756 to 4.319, whilst our publication speed has improved by 40%. The profile of JSAMS continues to rise and this is testament to Professor Waddington’s leadership. He leaves the Editor-In-Chief role with JSAMS in a very strong place. Our special thanks to Professor Waddington, and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours. After an international search, it gives us great pleasure to announce that we have appointed a new Editor-In-Chief for both JSAMS and JSAMS Plus heading into 2022. Professor Tim Meyer, Medical Director at the Institute of Sports and Preventive Medicine at Saarland University in Germany, will be taking over the reins from January 2022 for a period of 5 years. Professor Meyer has a very impressive and internationally recognised track record. He has qualifications in medicine as well as in sports science, and has extensive experience in journal editorial activities, having been an Associate Editor for JSAMS for the past 8 years and also the Editor-in-Chief for Science and Medicine in Football. Professor Meyer is the Doctor for the German National Football team, Chairs the Medical Committee of the European Football Association (UEFA) and the German Football Association, and is a member of the Medical Committee of the German National Olympic Committee. We have also made a further change to the structure of our Editorial Board supporting Professor Meyer. Professor Ollie Jay, from the University of Sydney, will now step up into the role of Senior Deputy Editor. Along with his specialisms in the Sport and Exercise Science category, Professor Jay will lead a number of strategic projects targeted at further boosting JSAMS’ profile and standing within the international sports medicine community. We are very excited about the future of JSAMS and JSAMS Plus and we look forward to seeing the journals continuing to thrive under Professor Meyer’s leadership." @default.
