• W3217636629 abstract "<b>Background:</b> Patients with bronchiectasis often have exacerbations that require hospitalization, and there is little literature about the factors affecting long-term survival in this group of patients. <b>Objective:</b> We aimed to investigate factors influencing long-term survival in patients with bronchiectasis after a first hospitalization. <b>Methods:</b> A retrospective observational study was performed and included patients with CT-confirmed bronchiectasis after their first hospitalization for bronchiectasis exacerbation. Data about the performance status, respiratory and non-respiratory comorbidities, baseline treatment and treatment received during hospitalization was collected. <b>Results:</b> One hundred and thirty-three patients were included in the analysis. Mortality at 5 years after a first hospitalization for bronchiectasis was 48%. The main cause of mortality was respiratory (64.1%), followed by cardiovascular (15.6%) and neoplastic disease (12.5%). FEV₁, Charlson index and chronic respiratory failure were associated with and increase in mortality, even after adjusting by age. Chronic bronchial infection by <i>Pseudomonas aeruginosa</i> was not associated with a significant increase in all-cause mortality, but it was in patients who had died from respiratory causes. <b>Conclusion:</b> Although the main cause of mortality was respiratory, non-respiratory comorbidities play an important role in long-term survival. A multidisciplinary management in these patients could improve their survival." @default.
