- W324741161 abstract "The activity of some enzymes involved in ammonia assimilation, the incorporation of 14 C into amino acids and the free amino acid content of aerial organs of maize related to ear metabolism were determined. In all organs the major ammonia assimilating enzyme was glutamine-synthetase, the activity of other enzymes being quite low. The highest free amino acid content was found in the rachis. Almost all proteinogen amino acids were present not only in the leaf lamina but also in extralaminar tissues. The free amino acid pools of stem, hypsophylls and rachis were similar in composition, but were not related to that of leaf lamina. Data on 14 C incorporation show that the ear tissues, despite their specialization, did not lose the autonomous ability to produce the primary amino acids aspartate, glutammate and alanine. The data are discussed with regards to aspects related to maize ear metabolism." @default.
