- W327648509 abstract "This study investigated the differences in the motivational profiles of students, based on the selfdetermination theory, goal orientation theory, and sport competition anxiety. Two hundred and fifty-two Hungarian pupils (mean age=13.0 years), recruited from three comprehensive schools and a sports college, took part in the study. Students were asked to complete the SMS, TEOSQ and SCAT questionnaires. Results showed that girls had a higher sport competition anxiety and amotivation than boys, which may result in early sport abandonment. Boys had higher intrinsic motivation as well as ego orientation than girls. Further students in the three comprehensive schools were more ego-oriented and less amotivated than students in the sports college. As expected, a negative correlation was found between amotivation and intrinsic motivation as well as amotivation and extrinsic motivation. In light of these findings, it is suggested that physical education teachers and school sport coaches should pay attention to gender differences, and they should build up the sport motivation of girls to avoid the development of their amotivation." @default.
