- W32809654 abstract "Like Pb4+ or Hg2+ compounds, two-electron oxidation is possible with Pd2+ compounds, but there are many unique oxidation reactions specific to Pd2+. In the oxidation reaction, Pd2+ is reduced to Pd0. If a stoichiometric amount of rather expensive Pd2+ compounds is consumed, the reaction can not be a very useful synthetic method. Essence of great success of the Wacker process is the invention of an ingenious catalytic cycle, in which the reduced Pd0 is reoxidized in situ to Pd2+ by CuCl2, and in turn CuCl is easily oxidized to CuCl2 by oxygen. Consequently organic compounds are oxidized indirectly with oxygen without consuming Pd2+ and Cu2+ compounds by the combination of these redox reactions as shown by the following general scheme [38–40]." @default.
