- W329049752 abstract "The purpose of the study was to determine whether instructional patterns in music teacher training courses can affect a change in music student teachers' and music teachers' competency for achievement and opinions of the goals for grade school music education. The following research questions were raised for the study: 1. Are there significant differences in music student teachers' and music teachers' competency for achievement and opinions of the goals for grade school music education among three groups that studied under the musical skill-knowledge acquisition centered instruction, the nature of music inquiry centered instruction, and instruction that integrates the two? 2. Do those instructional patterns affect music student teachers' and music teachers' perception of the strongest or weakest abilities that they possess regarding the achievement of the goals? Participants in this survey were 153 undergraduate students (Korea National University of Education) enrolled in Music Education 301 (Introduction to Music Education) class during the first term and Music Education 302 (Music Teaching Methods) class during the second term in 1997 and 78 music teachers enrolled in the Music Teaching Technique class of the 1997 Music Teacher In Service Program (KNUE). Each student and teacher responded to the survey twice: once before and once after completing the coursework for Music Education 301 and 302, or Music Teaching Technique (48 hours) of the In Service program. One hundred sixteen students and 38 teachers responded to the survey form for the goals relevant to grade 6; 19 students and 20 teachers responded to the survey form for grade 9; 1 8 students and 20 teachers responded to the survey form for the goals appropriate to grade 12." @default.
