This chapter offers a synthesis of the genetic mechanisms involved in host-plant resistance to nematodes that incorporates the latest findings from current research programs. Measurement of the host resistance and nematode virulence phenotypes currently often is based on an assessment of nematode reproduction on plants, following a standardized inoculation procedure that places nematodes in proximity to host roots. Crop production systems are being converted from a reliance on chemical control tactics with nematicides to a more active use of environmentally compatible strategies including host-plant resistance to control nematodes. A significant number of nematode resistance genes in plants are sensitive to high temperature, although not all nematode R genes are temperature sensitive." @default.
