- W331804192 abstract "(1) Few secondary models exist in the United States. (2) Seconday school administrators and teachers are trained to be specific subject specialists and have been taught that they are experts in their field. They subsequently feel little need for suggestions or cooperation from the home. (3) Parents sometimes mistakenly feel that the curriculum at the secondary level is at such a sophisticated level that they can't be of much help and therefore shy away. The Yakima School District during the past ten years has been heavily involved in one of the National Follow Through Projects as a demonstration school district. The specific Yakima project has been the Parent Education model developed by Dr. Ira Gordon at the University of Florida. The positive effects of Follow Through in Yakima has had a significant and positive impact on the secondary schools of our district. In the late 1960's and early 1970's, the administration of A. G. Davis Senior High School, which is the high school that serves most of the parents and students of our Follow Through program, became aware that many of their Follow Through parents were still desirous of having open communication and cooperation about their child's education within the school system. As the principal of A. C. Davis Senior High School throughout this period of time, I entered into a philosophical discussion with the staff of the school" @default.
