- W332553347 abstract "In the available phonetic descriptions of Galician there are no agreement about the pronunciation of the nuclear vowel in the falling diphthongs and . Most works describe these vowels as mid-high [e] and [o], but others transcribe them as mid-low [e] and [?], respectively. In this paper I analize the first three formants of the nuclear vowels in these diphthongs as pronounced by five male and six female speakers from different regions of Galicia in several sound contexts, and I compare these results both with the mid-low vowels [e] and [J] and with the mid-high ones [e] and [o] as pronounced by the same speakers in the same contexts. The results show that some speakers pronounce the diphthong vowel in as a mid-high [e], whereas others show a lowered mid-high vowel [e]. On the other hand, one speaker pronounce a raised mid-low back vowel [?] in the diphthong , whereas the rest of them have a mid-high back vowel [o]. Finally, I show that many speakers pronounce the diphthong vowel in the plural forms like papeis as a mid-low vowel [e], as in the singular form papel', whereas others have in this place a vowel which coincides with that pronounced in the diphthong elsewhere, thus different from that in the singular form." @default.
