- W33455318 abstract "Phaseolotoxin is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme L-ornithine transcarbamoylase. During toxin biosynthesis, Pseudomonas syringae pv. phaseolicola possesses an L-ornithine transcarbamoylase activity that is insensitive to phaseolotoxin and its active derivate Nδ-(N′-sulpho-diaminophosphinyl)-L-ornithine. This L-ornithine transcarbamoylase has kinetic properties considerably different from those reported for other L-ornithine transcarbamoylases, including that from a strain of Pseudomonas syringae pv. phaseolicola which is unable to produce phaseolotoxin. The differences in kinetic properties include an unusual mechanism (compulsory-order equilibrium), a lower affinity for carbamoyl phosphate and slower binding of ornithine. Phaseolotoxin competes for the carbamoyl phosphate binding site and relies on rapid binding of the ornithyl group to the enzyme. Therefore the kinetic properties of the ornithine transcarbamoylase from the toxin-producing strain would account for the inability of phaseolotoxin to inhibit the enzyme." @default.
