- W334765691 abstract "Income from membership for this year was broadly on target. Payments were received from those national branches which were late with their payments for 2008. I would like to thank all the national treasurers and membership secretaries for their help and efforts during the year. If you think you can see some discrepancies between the membership figures on the audit document when compared with the income received, next time the job of Membership Secretary or Treasurer becomes vacant in your branch, volunteer to do it, and you'll understand just how difficult it is! All branches are invited to be punctual with sending their dues and membership lists in the future, as the budget predictions rely on payments being made on time, and correct addresses mean that extra postage costs are not incurred from re-sending Fontes to new addresses. Membership from non-branch members was down slightly. Dues should be paid by 1st March each year. Miscellaneous income from address label sales was reasonably successful in 2009, but income from advertising has been less than expected mainly owing to non-payment of invoices. I would like to thank David Day for all his work in this area, it is now down to me to chase late payers. Expenditure was less than budgeted. Savings were made in the production of Fontes and in the travel budget. Each year we have set aside around 2.5.% of our income for the Outreach Fund, and in recent times this has equated to 1500 [euro] per year. Although our income this year would appear to produce a figure of around 2000 [euro], we must remember that some of this income actually came from 2008, (late payments of membership dues, Fontes advertising etc.), so I would like to propose that we set aside the usual 1500 [euro]. I am still trying to find a cheap method of enabling payment of membership dues by credit card. This will be my mission for 2010. I don't wish to incur any extra bank charges, especially in a time when we are not making much income in interest payments. We have to set the dues for 2012, while acknowledging that many countries are suffering financial hardship, we have to maintain a reasonable level of capital and the Board therefore suggests that the institutional dues rise to 64 [euro](from 62 [euro]), and individuals rise to 38 [euro] (from 37 [euro]). This will result in an overall increase in this part of our income of around 3%. The Board would also like to propose that IAML adopts the same procedure as IFLA to encourage membership from disadvantaged countries. This would involve reducing the membership fee for countries which appear under a certain level on the Unesco scale of assessment of least developed countries. If adopted this would result in a reduction of 600 [euro] on current membership levels, but it has the potential to encourage new memberships. We are grateful to the 2009 auditors, Pamela Thompson and Richard Chesser. Kathryn Adamson, treasurer June 2010 ACCOUNTS 2009 A.
