Although the MCDP had a total budget of only $8.7 million and was completed in less than three years, it embodied a number of features that led to significant results. This was largely due to an innovative design that integrated multi-sector community-based projects with local institution building and empowerment. The project demonstrated that it is possible to bridge macro and micro activities by linking local communities to civil society and local governments in ways that builds up local institutions that empower the poor.
