- W35861770 abstract "The authors previously reported that a subgroup of schizophrenic-like patients respond favorably to lithium (Li) therapy. A high correlation was found between Li response and clinical diagnostic criteria. The present study extends this research to the prediction and identification of those patients who will respond favorably to Li therapy, using biological markers. Growth hormone response to apomorphine administration and the in vitro Li ratio were examined in thirty-eight patients who subsequently received a two week Li trial. Peak growth hormone levels ≥ 20 ng/ml and Li ratios ≥ 0.4 were correlated with a positive response to Li therapy. The authors discuss the use of these two biological markers to predict success of Li therapy in the schizophrenias, as well as, biological abnormalities characteristic of Li responsive schizophrenic patients." @default.
