- W368978249 abstract "Acute adverse reactions are defined as reactions occurring within the hour following contrast medium injection. They may occur after any of the contrast agents used for radiography, ultrasound, or magnetic resonance imaging. The majority of reactions are mild, and some of the mild symptoms reported are not even caused by the contrast agent. However, severe and life threatening reactions may still occur. Hypersensitivity reactions after contrast medium may be allergic or non-allergic. The factors predisposing to acute reactions and the methods to reduce the incidence of acute reactions to both iodine- and gadolinium-based reactions are discussed in this chapter. The use of premedication is controversial, as the limited scientific basis for its use is now recognized. Even after premedication, adverse reactions may still occur." @default.
