Specifically, I examine the relationship between organizational stressors, levels of stress, and coping strategies with organizational outcomes (job satisfaction, voluntary turnover) in two hospital departments. To do this, I address the question:nnnnn How do departmental stressors and individual coping strategies influence stress levels, job satisfaction, and voluntary turnover between Intensive Care and Emergency Department nursing?nnnnn Participants were 10 nurses from a large, metropolitan public hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Emergency Department (ED). Five interviews in each department were conducted (10 semi-structured interviews in total). From these interviews, results are discussed in terms of explaining the relationships between departmental stressors, perceived levels of stress, coping strategies and job satisfaction across the two departments. This was done by identifying themes according to the theoretical framework, namely ICU Environmental Stressors, ED Environmental Stressors, Stress, Coping Strategies for Stress, Job Satisfaction and Voluntary Turnover. An analysis was then conducted to identify and categorise topics that were fitting to those themes. The findings indicated a weak relationship between stress and organizational outcomes, contradicting current stress research, and stipulating a need for more research in this area." @default.
