- W37321626 abstract "Growth factors are a diverse group of polypeptides that stimulate cell proliferation through binding to specific high-affinity cell membrane-bound receptors. Growth factors typically act as signaling molecules between the cells. Growth factors and growth factor receptors play a major role in growth and development, wound healing, angiogenesis, and have many physiological functions. Derangement in the functions of these molecules plays a critical role in cancer progression. Both tumor and stromal/endothelial cells utilize important, in some cases redundant, groups of growth factor receptors to encode signals required for (1) proliferation/survival, (2) migration, (3) invasion and matrix degradation, (4) actin cytoskeletal rearrangement, (5) angiogenesis, and (6) chemoradiosensitivity in vivo . This article reviews the role of growth factors and their receptors in cancer, particularly the member of the receptor tyrosine kinase." @default.
