- W3826666 abstract "This chapter discusses the chemistry of olivomycin–chromomycin antibiotics. Olivomycin and chromomycin, metabolites of Streptomyces olivoreticuli and Streptomyces griseus No. 7, respectively, are mixtures of closely related compounds that lend themselves to chromatographic separation into the individual antibiotics: olivomycins A, B, C, and D, and chromomycins A 2 , A 3 and A 4 . As a result of the chemical studies of these antibiotics, they were found to belong to a single group of structurally related glycosides of the general type, chromomycins being 7-methylolivomycins. Acid hydrolysis or alcoholysis of all olivomycins brings about their splitting into an aglycone and a number of 2,6-dideoxyhexoses, namely, oliose, olivose, olivomose, and olivomycose, and their derivatives. On hydrolysis, olivomycin A benzoate forms acetyloliose, the 4-benzoate of olivose, and the benzoates of olivomose and of isobutryrylolivomycose. From this, it follows that the antibiotic contains two unbranched carbohydrate chains, the terminal sugars of which are olivomose and isobutyrylolivomycose." @default.
