Deixis is divided into five categories. They are person deixis, place deixis, time deixis, discourse deixis, and social deixis. Deixis is important to be analyzed, because if we read some conversations in the novel or the other literary works, sometimes we will be confused about the meaning in that conversation. It means that deixis is the way to analyze unspeakable context. By reading novel, we can analyze the types and the reference of deixis at the same time carefully.The objectives of this research are: (1) to find out the types of deixis are found in “Breaking Dawn” novel by Stephenie Meyer and (2) to describe deixis are used in “Breaking Dawn” novel by Stephenie Meyer.This research is a descriptive qualitative research which analysis the types of deixis in the first chapter until the seventh chapter in “Breaking Dawn” novel by Stephenie Meyer.Based on the findings, the writer found that (1) there are five categories of deixis, they are person deixis, place deixis, time deixis, discourse deixis, and social deixis. The types of deixis that were found in the utterances of the Breaking Dawn novel by Stephenie Meyer are 2065. It is consist of 1291 persons deixis, 71 places deixis, 134 times deixis, 507 discourses deixis, and the last is 62 socials deixis; by the percentages of the types of deixis are person deixis that the sum is 62.52%. The second is discourse deixis that the sum is 24.55%. Then, it is time deixis that the sum is 6.49%. Next, it is place deixis that the sum is 3.44%. And, the last is social deixis that the sum is 3.00%. And then, (2) based on the result of the research, in the utterances of every chapter, the writer’s novel (Stepheinie Meyer) tells about many characters that joined in almost utterances of every chapter, because the dominant deixis which is used in “Breaking Dawn” novel is person deixis. So, the writer concludes that the writer’s novel (Stephenie Meyer) uses deixis clearly in the utterances of every chapter, because there is no misunderstanding between the writer and the reader.The writer suggests, for the further researchers who are interesting in doing similar research, this research will give contribution to comprehend the types of deixis. And also this research can give inspiration and guidance for the further researchers to be more careful in doing research." @default.
