- W39383354 abstract "On November 20, 2011, Goldman Sachs’ Chief Economist Jim O’Neil published an article entitled World Needs Better Economic BRICs, discussing new economies of Brazil, Russia, India and China, and their roles in global economic development. Because initials of English names of four countries make word BRIC, acronym has been pronounced as brick. Therefore, four countries are known as BRICs/BRIC countries, among which Brazil is viewed as the world's raw materials base, Russia as as the world's gas station, India as office, and China as factory. BRIC countries are representatives of emerging economies, and are likely to become world's largest economies in coming decades. Then in 2003, Goldman Sachs again in its ninety-ninth global economic report, Dreaming With BRICs: The Path to 2050, further predicted: BRICs will lead world economy in 2050, and United States, China, India, Japan, Brazil and Russia will become new six biggest economies. The world economy will re-shuffle. In following years, Goldman Sachs issued a few more BRIC reports, and concept of emerging economies started to get more attention and acceptance from wider international community. However, for a fairly long period of time, “BRIC” had been more a slogan than a real mechanism, with its form outweighing its content." @default.
