- W40625549 abstract "Reverse osmosis (RO) technique of wastewater treatment is discussed. It has been recognized as efficient for the separation, concentration, and desalination of organic and inorganic species and thus enjoys wide acceptance in the preparation of potable and ultra pure waters from saline, surface, and groundwaters. The major limitations of this technique which hence has put a barrier to its widespread usage are discussed. The pretreatment via filtration by microfilters, coagulations, etc., is a costly, time-consuming, and difficult affair. The feed water need to be free from turbidity, oil, grease, etc. Besides, the semipermeable membranes need to work under some specific pH range. The fouling of membranes reduces the life of the membranes and consequently results in decline in the RO permeate flux. The applications of the technique for the removal of varied types of pollutants are discussed." @default.
