- W41573840 abstract "Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has the potential to be used for the diagnosis and study of osteoarthrosis in the equine tarsal region. In the development of new diagnostic MRI techniques cadaver specimens are often used. To allow the use of cadaver legs for these types of studies it is important to know the effect of time after death on the MRI image. Since the relaxation times are temperature dependent, it is interesting to examine whether the time after death and the temperature of the cadaver may play a role in the image appearance and quality. The radio pulse sequences that show the different types of tissues are also important to know when pathological evaluation with MRI is used. Ten equine tarsal joints where examined with a 1.5 Tesla high field system immediately after euthanasia and 24 hours later. On both occasions the temperatures of the legs were measured. A grading system with both objective and subjective parameters was developed. Images were evaluated with all identification details removed and the image appearance and quality between the fresh and the 24 hours post mortem MRI images was compared. The results showed no difference in the images with the subjective assessments. The relative signal intensity changed in trabecular bone, fluid and in the ratio between tendon and articular cartilage for the objective measurements, and this is important to know when considering development of new MRI objective measurement techniques. For the fresh legs the signal intensity and contrast of different tissues at different radio pulse sequences was compared. The results here showed that T1-weighted FFE showed the anatomy best, while T2-weighted TFE resulted in higher measured values.When using objective measurement techniques to evaluate MRI of cadaver legs it is important to be aware of effects of temperature and time. When using MRT for evaluation of the components of the tarsal joint a combination of radio pulse sequences gives the best result.Magnetresonanstomografi (MRT) har potential att anvandas vid diagnos och studier av osteoartros pa tarsalomradet hos hast. Vid utveckling av MRT-teknik for framtagning av ny diagnostik anvands ofta kadaver. Vid anvandning av kadaver vid den har typen av studier ar det viktigt att veta vilka effekter som fas post mortem pa MRT-bilderna. Eftersom relaxationstiderna ar temperaturberoende ar det intressant att undersoka om kadavrets alder och temperatur spelar nagon roll for bildens utseende och kvalitet. Aven vilka radiopulssekvenser som ger bast visualisering av olika typer av vavnader ar viktigt att veta vid patologisk utvardering med hjalp av MRT.Tio tarsalleder fran hast undersoktes med ett 1.5 Tesla hogfaltssystem direkt efter avlivning och ytterligare 24 timmar senare. Vid bada tillfallena mattes temperaturen i benet. Ett bedomningssystem med bade objektiva och subjektiva parametrar utvecklades. Bilderna utvarderades efter att all identifikationsinformation var borttagen och darefter jamfordes MRT-bildernas utseende och kvalitet mellan de farska och de 24 timmar post mortem. Resultatet visade ingen skillnad pa bilderna vid de subjektiva bedomningarna men den relativa signalintensiteten andrade sig for trabekulart ben, vatska och for kvoten mellan bojsena och ledbrosk for de objektiva matningarna vilket ar viktigt att veta vid framtagning av nya objektiva MRT-matmetoder. For de farska benen jamfordes signalintensiteten och kontrasten for olika vavnader vid olika radiopulssekvenser. Resultatet har visade att T1-viktad FFE bast visualiserar anatomin medan T2-viktad TFE ger hogre uppmatta varden. Vid anvandning av objektiva mattekniker for utvardering av MRT med hjalp av kadaverben ar det viktigt att vara medveten om effekterna av tiden och temperaturen efter avlivning. Vid anvandning av MRT ger en kombination av radiopulssekvenser bast resultat vid utvardering av tarsalledens komponenter." @default.
