- W4200138422 abstract "Successful Health systems are based on strong structures, ample funds and human resources but in developing world there is less focus on human resource development . Here we present a small survey taken from various staff categories working in a secondary care hospital in Pakistan. The results from this survey give us a snapshot of the health status of our medical and allied health staff working in government- private sectors and based on this one can easily predict the health status of a common man in developing countries. We developed a questionnaire covering wide range of aspects such as basic health screen, blood pressure, blood sugar screening and monitoring, immunization status, dental and metal health status and regular follow up of any chronic medical conditions as shown in Figure 1& 2. These were then circulated among 100 staff members of various categories like doctors, nurses, paramedic staff, admin and security. 100 participants, 52% males and 48% females. Majority of our health workers were unaware of their BMI and vaccination status (Figure 1 & Figure 2). Majority of those who had chronic medical or mental health illness had no regular follow-up with a physician (Figure 1 & Figure 2). At least one third of participants have had no basic health screening and approximately same number of participants had their BP and blood sugar (Figure 1) checked once in lifetime or never. The world health report 2006, defines health workers to be all people engaged in actions whose primary intent is to enhance health. Health workers are expected to be the healthiest of the population but in fact they have same risk for DM, HTN, IHD like rest of population and are also at increased risk of depression, needle stick injuries, communicable diseases and obesity. This report indicates poor health education and awareness among healthcare staff and almost zero access to dedicated occupational health department. In developing world, we need to adopt efficient healthcare system that will meet all basic needs of general population and its own staff." @default.
