- W4200139375 abstract "The presence of chemicals in the aquatic environment is a global concern. Determining the effects of compounds in aquatic ecosystems is of paramount importance for the assessment of hazards and the development of environmental regulations. There are now several tools available on the Internet that can measure the toxicity of different compounds. These computational methodologies include databases, such as chemical data libraries maintained by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), quantitative–structure and activity relationship (QSAR) methodologies and tests to model and predict the responses of large quantities of chemical compounds and materials in the environment, including their physical–chemical properties and toxicities. Web tools have several advantages, including bypassing the need to install software, the use of servers to perform all or most of the processes, bypassing the need for powerful computers, and several processes use batch mode, which allows the job to be submitted and the results retrieved at a later time. Aquatic toxicology studies that have been reported recently have increasingly used these tools and are likely to continue this trend." @default.
