- W4200280382 abstract "The study assessed the role of mangrove to the livelihood of people living in world’s largest mangrove forest. Analysis has also been done on the livelihood assets and major stresses over the livelihood. A survey was conducted over 254 households (HHs) from 22 villages located at the fringe areas of Indian Sundarbans. The result shows that more than 81% HHs has made a regular visit to the forest and >46% earned half of their income from the forest areas. More than 21% HHs were entirely depends on mangrove for their livelihood. A large variation in total livelihood assets was observed. Hamilton Abad has the highest total assets value (2.97) among 22 selected villages. Overexploitation was stated to be key factor responsible for the decrease of both quantity and quality of fishes and crabs. Govt. regulation and difficulty in receiving passes are the major problems associated with firewood and honey collections." @default.
