- W4200301440 abstract "Bangladesh plans to make a clean energy transition in its journey of sustainable development, and has been constantly assessing its renewable energy (RE) resources through various technologies. One of the first renewable energy technologies to prove feasible was hydro energy at Kaptai, Rangamati. However, since then, various RE technologies have been investigated, including wind, solar, biomass, waste to energy, micro-hydro, wave, and tidal energy. Among them, biomass has a steady potential, and there are a handful of potential sites for wind energy. The most promising technology for the future appears to be solar PV, where most of the future RE projects are focused. This chapter provides a description of the renewable energy resource potential in different technologies, in the geological and geographical context of Bangladesh, and includes details about past, existing and planned projects, as well as feasibility studies not yet under commercial development consideration. The chapter covers the theoretical and actual potential of different technologies and highlights, compares them to ideal benchmarks, and elaborates the challenges of technical and commercial realisation. The socio-economic and policy contexts of RE development, and the implications for climate change are also discussed." @default.
