The Mg-0.2Ca-0.2La alloy exhibited slow and uniform degradation with only 5.9% reduction in implant volume 12 weeks post-implantation. Cytocompatibility study, using MC3T3-E1, showed significantly higher cell proliferation and osteogenic differentiation on Mg-0.2Ca-0.2La alloy surface. When implanted in rat femur, significant bone growth with increased trabecular thickness and number was found around Mg-0.2Ca-0.2La rod. Moreover, no local or systematic adverse effect was observed during the implantation period." @default.
