- W4200318986 abstract "Solid biofuels are derived from nonfossil, organic materials, including plant biomass, animal waste, and municipal waste, which can be used to produce energy for heating, cooking, or electricity generation. Solid biofuel in the form of wood has been used since fire was discovered by humans for cooking, heating, and other applications. In recent years, solid biofuels are obtained from multiple sources including forest products, animal, and agricultural residues, and dedicated energy crops. This chapter discusses the different types of solid biofuels, the primary and secondary biomass feedstocks used to produce different solid biofuels. The desirable physical and chemical properties for solid biofuels and standards used for evaluating these properties are also discussed. The chapter also summarizes the costs and emissions for producing/acquiring and delivering solid biofuels. Finally, the policies implemented to promote solid biofuels and the global opportunities and challenges for solid biofuels are also discussed in the chapter." @default.
