- W4200379239 abstract "Based on shallow water equation, this paper proposes analytical solutions of wave transformation in the wave flume of constant depth with a hyperbolic-cosine shoal. There are primary waves propagating along the flume and cross waves traveling perpendicularly to the flume. The free surface elevation over the shoal is described by the combination of the associated Legendre functions of the first and second kinds of degree ν and order one, while the final solutions of the primary waves are obtained by matching the incident and reflection waves in front of the shoal and the transmitted waves behind the shoal. The effects of related topography parameters on the primary-wave transformation are examined. When the width of the flume is of the same order as the wavelength of primary waves, cross waves may appear. Analytical solutions for these possible cross waves are derived, which reveal the existence of symmetrical and anti-symmetrical wave patterns over the shoal. The wavenumber is determined by the width of the flume, whilst the frequency is not only related to the wavenumber, but also to the parameters of the shoal. These analytical solutions give quantitative descriptions of water wave transformation over the shoal and provide a possible approach to validate the related numerical models." @default.
