- W4200381768 abstract "Zirconium alloys offer excellent properties for use as fuel cladding tubes and other structural materials in nuclear reactors. At higher temperatures that may exist during various accident scenarios, they are strongly oxidized by steam and other gases resulting in severe degradation of the mechanical properties as well as release of hydrogen and heat. In general, the high-temperature oxidation kinetics of zirconium alloys is described by parabolic oxidation, which is defined by the solid-state diffusion of oxygen (vacancies) through the growing zirconia scale. This article describes the scope of the correlations of parabolic oxidation rates and discusses limitations and deviations therefrom. Thermo-chemical and kinetic aspects are considered." @default.
