Exergy analysis is a thermodynamic analysis technique based on the Second Law of Thermodynamics which provides an alternative and illuminating means of assessing and comparing TES systems rationally and meaningfully. The chapter also describes theoretical and practical aspects of energy and exergy analyses and discusses general thermodynamic considerations in TES evaluation. It details the use of exergy in evaluating a closed TES system, with in-depth discussions of two critical evaluation factors: appropriate TES efficiency measures and the importance of temperature in performance evaluations for sensible TES systems. The chapter considers applications of exergy analysis to a wide range of TESs, including aquifer TES systems, thermally stratified storage systems and cold TES systems." @default.
