- W4200622612 abstract "The paper starts with an introduction on the mechanism of concrete microcracking, seen from ultrasonic pulse velocity measurements point of view, and illustrates the necessity of microcracks identification. Further on, the principle of the method is explained and a scale to estimate the intensity of concrete structural degradation is given. The next paragraph describes the particularities of the testing of columns, shear walls and beams. A number of seven examples of the testing of columns and shear wall units, belonging to industrial and administrative buildings subjected to an earthquake, are presented. In the case of two columns, it is illustrated how the distinction can be made between the effect of casting defects and of microcracks on the basis of ultrasonic measurements. The conclusions summarise the technical and economical efficiency of ultrasonic measurements for the evaluation of repair solutions to be adopted for each structure damaged by an earthquake." @default.
