- W4205120468 abstract "In the early years of minimally invasive surgery (MIS), controversy existed regarding the need for suturing skills. This chapter aims to give novice laparoscopic surgeons a foundation, enabling them to start practicing suturing in a simulator in preparation for clinical application. The handles are often of a straight axial design, placing the needle in line with the surgeon's hands to allow greater maneuverability and more natural motion of the wrist when suturing. Conventional suture materials are routinely used in MIS, especially for interrupted sutures or ligatures. Several barbed sutures are all produced by cutting into a parent strand of smooth suture. Extracorporeal knot tying is indicated when the maneuvring space is insufficient for intracorporeal suturing. The simplest of slip knots is a regular single throw advanced and cinched down with the knot pusher, but this does not withstand any tension on the suture line." @default.
