- W4205193776 abstract "Detailed studies of three Turonian-Coniacian sedimentary sections outcropping to the SE of Sidi Bouzid city, central Tunisia, allowed us to provide new data about the spatio-temporal evolution and facies pattern of carbonate reservoirs in the area. The Upper Cenomanian-Early Turonian carbonate platform of the Gattar Member is well developed in central Tunisia. It is predominantly composed of rudist-rich dolostones deposited in open marine to restricted settings. The latter laterally change, East and Northward (Sahel area and Northern Central Atlas), to marine marlstones of the Bahloul Formation. Around the Boudinar-Boudouaou outcrops, the uppermost part of the Gattar carbonates shows evidence of emersion and erosion. The material, which is resedimented in neighbouring depressions, constitutes the Rouana Member mainly formed of a polygenic breccia. The overlying Lower-Middle Turonian Bireno carbonates are also rich in rudists associated to peloids and lithoclasts. During this time, erosion features and resedimentation also occur in Jebel Khsham El Artsouma section. During the Coniacian, the oolite-rich bioclastic carbonates forming the Douleb Member are common in Jebel Khsham El Artsouma section and more to the East, in subsurface. In Jebel Boudinar and Boudouaou sections, they change to alternating marls, dolomites and mudstones-wackestones containing algal laminations, miliolids, peloids, bioclasts and scarce oolites deposited in a peritidal lagoonal to tidal flat environment. The frequent lateral changes of the Turonian-Coniacian facies may be due to the topographic irregularities of the sea floor. This architecture is strongly suggested by the thickness and facies variations and the sliding structures such as slump marks and debris flow deposits, which are locally frequent immediately above the Upper Cenomanian Gattar carbonate Member. These irregularities appear controlled by tectonic movements expressed by normal faults which are particularly active during the Cenomanian-Coniacian period, creating paleohighs and subsiding blocks." @default.
