- W4205262660 abstract "Block and graft copolymers represent an interesting class of macromolecules with a broad spectrum of applications. Controlled radical polymerization techniques were adopted over the years for the synthesis of a variety of macromolecular architectures. However, the realization of some specific structures with targeted properties has often been found to be a difficult task due to the possibility of many side reactions. “Click” chemistry is a recently introduced approach involving a handful of almost perfect chemical reactions that are fast, efficient, selective, tolerant to a wide variety of solvents and functionalities, and give high yields. This strategy can address the issues arising in the polymer field effectively. This chapter has given more emphasis on click chemistry that has been used for the creation of specific molecular architectures, impossible or difficult to realize through classical anionic or controlled radical polymerizations methods. It also discusses various click chemistry options vis-à-vis the conventional techniques for deriving complex architectures. Click chemistry was very helpful in realizing linear, star, comb, and network type of polymeric structures. Thermoset polymers with good self-healing, adhesive, and shape memory characteristics could be derived under mild reaction conditions. Further, the impact of click reaction in tailoring of industrially important polymer and in the cross-linking of propellants has also been highlighted." @default.
