- W4205652989 abstract "Pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) have a great potential for cell therapy applications, due to their self-renewal capacity and their ability to differentiate into various clinically useful cell types. Recent studies indicate the occurrence of genomic instability in PSCs, raising concerns about their quality and hence suitability for clinical use. PSCs show a high level of the histone modification γH2AX, a DNA damage marker, suggesting a potential source of genomic instability, compared to the parental fibroblasts and cells differentiated from them. The high levels of γH2AX marker expression in PSCs correlate to high levels of proliferation in PSCs. In this chapter we review replication-associated DNA damage and the DNA damage response in PSCs while offering potential measures to mitigate the occurrence of DNA damage." @default.
