The increase in production from fractured wells is an average of 0.5 MMCFD per well. Trying to enhance the fracturing activities, the Veracruz Multidisciplinary Team made a proposal for a project for the application of propped fractures. The project is part of an internal process named Technology Management Process, PAT per its Spanish acronym, conducted and supported by the Technology and Professional Development Subdirection. In Mexico, all the propped fracturing activities were conducted in sandstone formations, especially in its North border, and hence the importance of this work. The project includes 3 propped fractures in fields Mata Pionche, Mecayucan and Copite. In 1998 the well Mata Pionche 1092 was fractured, but the job suffered a premature screen out after 55% of the proppant mass had been placed in the formation. In spite of the screen out, a net increase of 0.2 MMCFD was achieved, not enough to recover the investment in a short time. This paper presents a Post-Frac analysis of well Mata Pionche 1092 treatment, independent of the Service Company's report. It was finished 12 months after the treatment to include the production response over a considerable period. This paper includes the causes of such screen out concerns and describes multiple fracture geometry using several tools. Although these tools are used to obtain data differently, they are not used in Mini Frac and main treatment data together. This paper will show that the effective use of the combined analysis is more comprehensive. It is possible to apply successfully propped fracturing in carbonate formations with some modifications to the perforation program, selection of fracturing fluids and flow efficiency testing to diagnose potential problems.IntroductionThe application of Hydraulic Fracturing, propped or non-propped, has the unique objective to create a path with greater conductivity than formation's conductivity. Fracture mechanics is the same for both types of fractures : a gelled fluid is pumped to create a fracture, once it is created the question is how to keep the maximum fracture conductivity after the fracture closes. This can be achieved with a proppant pack or etching fracture walls with acid. The decision to select the fracturing type depends on 3 aspects : formation permeability, existence and importance of natural fracture permeability and permanence of acid fracturing.Wells in Mata Pionche field always require an acidizing job to produce economical gas rates because damage caused by drilling fluids and cementing, and very low permeability. Acid fracturing at Veracruz Asset began in 1995 with a job in the well Mata Pionche 1092, which is a gas-condensate producer in the Cretaceous Orizaba formation. It was perforated in March 1995 from 9350 ft to 9416 ft using 1 11/16 guns, 0 degrees phase, 4 spf. After acidized, the initial production was approximately 0.3 MMCFD. In September 1995 the same interval was reperforated using 1 11/16 guns, 60 degrees phase, 4 spf. It was later acid fractured with 18000 gallons of oil base gel and 15000 gallons of 15% HCL-alcoholic acid. The Post-Frac gas rate was 1.4 MMCFD with a CGR of 22 STB/MMCF; the pay back time was 22 days approximately. The well was shut in because a problem in gas processing plants but production rate was recovered when it was open again indicating the permanence of the fracturing.Trying to increase its gas rate, well Mata Pionche 1092 was selected to propped fracturing.Gas rate previous to propped fracturing was 1.4 MMCFD trough ½ choke. All the available information used for the Post-Frac analysis is presented next.
